The Space Between Us brings together nine distinctive voices in Scottish figurative painting, from established masters to contemporary innovators.

 

At its heart is a collection by Alexander 'Sandy' Fraser RSA (1940 - 2020), spanning more than two decades of his career. These paintings offer a rare opportunity to view pivotal works by an artist whose influence shaped generations of painters through his role as Head of Painting at Gray's School of Art.

 

Alongside Fraser, Celie Byrne presents paintings from her ongoing Paisley Portraits series- intimate, thoughtful depictions of sitters she has met and invited to pose.

Francis Boag's vibrant, expressive compositions, Peter Moller's witty explorations of culture and identity, as well as works by Victoria Broxton, Stuart Buchanan, Kim Duncan, Jackie Henderson and Jennifer Mackie, together encompass the full range from gestural life studies, through delicate illustrative interpretations, to more surreal compositions where the figure is more akin to a toy figurine in a fantastical dreamscape, all completing an exhibition that celebrates both diversity and dialogue within contemporary figurative practice.
